Day 8
The PYP grades celebrated Easter Spirit Day with an egg and spoon race. Well done to Zeta for winning this race.
We continued
working on our Fractions, Percents, Ratios, and Rates math unit. We began
review work. Students received a review package and were challenged to complete
the first 8 questions. Students who
completed all 8 submitted them for marking. These are coming home today.
Students should correct and complete questions 1 – 8. Please remember to return
the review packages to school on Tuesday as we will keep working on them in
class. The math unit test will take place on Thursday, April 20th.
Students
received a checklist for the slideshow they are working on today. This
checklist is one that students created themselves. It lists the components that
if included on their slideshow will contribute to an effective presentation.
The checklist was used to create a rubric that will be used to evaluate the
final slideshow product. Students were challenged to refer to the checklist as
the worked on their slideshow today. Students that had checked off 5 components
on their checklist were allowed to attend gym class today. Ninety-Eight percent
of students were successful and happily went to gym.
The class
attended French with Mme. Stella today.
Students are
reminded to bring in any costumes and props they need for the creative
component of exhibition by tomorrow as students will be shooting the video on
Tuesday, after the long weekend.
We have a
lot of action taking place around the school!
Jacob and
Husmeen are collecting materials to donate to an animal shelter for their
exhibition project. They are looking for cat litter. Cat food, toys for pets,
clothing for pets, old blankets, animal bowls, or anything you think may help.
It is that time again, SJA. Our annual SJA Spring Fundraiser is
fast approaching. It will run the week of Monday, April 24 - Friday,
April 28. Forms and information were sent home yesterday. This year,
we are raising money for technology and our goal is $9000. If we raise $3000 as
a school we get to wrap a teacher in toilet paper! If we raise $6000 as a
school we get to silly string a teacher! If we reach our goal of $9000,
students will get to water balloon the teachers! There will be a number of
events happening throughout the week and amazing prizes for students who
participate, as well as a grand prize, which includes a movie and pizza party!!
Some of the daily prizes include a gum day, silly string a teacher, an extra
casual day, sit on your teachers chair for the day, and pie Mr. Sawatsky in the
face!
Monday, April 24 – Costume Day – bring in $3
and the form and be able to wear a costume instead of the uniform!
Tuesday, April 25 – Popcorn Day - bring in $2.50
and the form and enjoy a bag of popcorn!
Wednesday, April 26 – Pancake Day - bring in $2
to $6 and the form and enjoy some yummy pancakes in your classroom!
Thursday, April 27 – Ice Cream Day - bring
in $5 and the form and enjoy some ice cream! You may also purchase an
apple or a banana for $1 a piece!
Friday, April 28 – Casual Day and Dance Party
- bring in $5 and the form and be able to wear casual clothing and
boogie-woogie away at a dance party!
For a pledge of $35 or more,
your child will be able to attend a class trip to Ultimate Laser Tag on Thursday,
May 18. Thank you so much in advance for your participation. We greatly
appreciate it!
All forms and money are due by
Wednesday, April 19 and the pledge form and money is due by Friday, April 28.
