We set out on our trip to the Fo Guang Shan Temple first thing
this morning. Our tour guide at the temple was called Jesse. He is also the
director of the temple. He explained the many of the artefacts to students and
answered their many questions. We had a Q & A session in the temple’s shrine
sitting on cushions in a circle. We learned about reincarnation, karma, and the
statues at the front of the temple. Jesse also showed us the memorial room and
bookshop. Here students got to see the holy texts of Buddhism.
When we got back
to class we had a discussion of what we had learned. Students then completed
and handed their reflection package on Buddhism.
After lunch, we had novel study time. We discussed chapter 4
of Number the Stars as a group. We
then read chapter 5. Students answered questions independently.
Grade 6s attended French and Gym class today.
The date of the in-class spelling bee has changed to Monday,
June 1. On this day, 5 students from Grade 6 will be selected to go to the
final SJA competition on Friday, June 5. Remember to practice for the spelling
bee. We had another practice run in class today for students to be familiar
with the process.
Students will be bringing some school supplies home with them
over the next while as we prepare for our move to our new location.
Remember that tomorrow is Track & Field Day. This will
take place at Meadow Green Park. Students should come to school in their gym
clothes. They should bring hats, apply sunblock, and bring extra water.
