Legends

We began our day with novel study time. We had a whole class discussion of vocabulary students encountered in chapters 1 and 2, as well as their thoughts on the literal, inferential, and opinion questions that they answered on these chapters. We then read the next chapter together. Students then worked independently to answer the next set of questions.

For the next part of the day, students wrote their second version of a tale or legend for the writing assessment. Over the past couple of days, we have been reading a variety of samples of students writing. Grade 6s were able to accurately determine the level of each writing piece, and justify why the piece was worth that level in terms of  strengths and weaknesses. We used the samples to create an anchor chart of what makes a tale or legend awesome. This chart was displayed in the classroom while students either wrote an improved version of their original legend or wrote a new legend idea.

Once students completed the writing assessment, they began working independently on their math review package. Students are asked to complete the package for homework. I will check packages on Monday. Students may then write the unit test on Monday if they are ready to do so. Students who are not ready on Monday, will write the test on Tuesday. They will be kept out of gym and second recess to write the test. The reason for this change is due to our trip on Tuesday.

Grade 6s attended French, and Gym class today.

Look out for a trip letter coming home today.

Pleases remember that tomorrow is a PD Day for teachers. There is no school for students.

Remember to practice for the spelling bee.
