Learning about Canada and the USA

Many groups needed an extra day to complete their ‘Welcome to _____, Canada’ video. Class time was used to complete recording the narration, adding the music, uploading, sharing the link and completing the self-assessment. Of course, time was also needed to troubleshoot issues related to various steps. By the end of the day I had receive all but links to 2 projects. I look forward to viewing these projects in class tomorrow.
Students that completed their video began working on learning about the connections between Canada and the USA. They used atlases that were made available in the classroom and internet sources to complete their worksheet. We will continue this work tomorrow. Laptops are needed tomorrow. Students are to complete the first page for homework if they did not complete it in class.
Students attended music class with Mr. Oliver, French class with Mme. Stella and math class with Ms. Joseph. In math, students took up yesterday’s homework on the transformation of figures and were introduced to tiling patterns. A figure tiles a plane when it covers a surface with no gaps or overlaps and the vertices are at 360 degrees. For homework, students are to complete question 1, 2 & 3 from textbook page 268 on square dot paper. They are to complete Q 3 transformations on a grid paper. The tentative date for the unit test is Thursday, February 20.
Speech duo-tangs are coming home today. Take time to review the two rubrics (written & oral) with your child, sign them, and return them to school.
Tomorrow is spirit day. Students are to come to school wearing reds, whites, and pinks.
The next Caribou contest will be taking place Wednesday, February 26th, 2020. Students are to arrive at 7:15 am for a 7:30 am start. They should bring their own charged devices.
The interactive question for Grades 2-10 will be Bomb Defuser and for Grade 11/12 it will be GeomeTree requiring a construction involving lines and circles. Because Caribou’s GeomeTree site can be used to solve the interactive question, this site will be blocked at noon on Tuesday, February 25th. Both interactive questions are accessible from Caribou’s Games/History page. Contact Caribou directly if you have any problems with the games. There will be no history question in the February contest.
March Lunches
The lunch site is now open. It will close on Wednesday, February 26th, at 3:00pm sharp. The special of the month is French Toast with Whipped Cream and Syrup. All payments are to be made through QuickBooks by March 6th.
Scholastic flyers are coming home today.
