Curling

Most students received house points for reciting the Guy Fawkes Day poem this morning.

We did not have most classes today due to our curling trip. Students did have French class with Mme. Stella and Ms. Joseph dropped off a review package that students are to complete for tomorrow.

We continued exploring tales and legends, which are this term’s narrative writing form. We read more examples of these types of writing that were written by students. We added more criteria to the list that represents what was done well in these writing pieces. This will help students when they work on their own tale/legend. We are still wondering about the difference between a tale and a legend. Pooshne took lots of action and has shared some of her research with us.

I shared with students the ideas that I have for our class’ part in this year’s Christmas concert. Interested students will be auditioning for main roles during second recess tomorrow.

Students used first recess to work on their electric cars. Those that came in early worked on their cars before school began. Students are encouraged to come to school early, 8 am, to give them more time to work on their science fair projects.

Hot lunch payments are to be made through QuickBooks by November 6th.

Our collection of ‘Lost and Found’ items is piling up. Please make some time to come into the school building and a look through the lost and found items. These are now located in the GYM. On November 8th at 4pm all left over items will be donated to the local Salvation Army.

Please send in newspapers if you have any. We need these for a Papier-mâché project we will be working on during this unit.

The next Caribou Contest takes place on Wednesday, November 13th, 2019. Participants are to arrive at 7:15 am for a 7:30 am start. Bring a charged device, preferably a laptop, iPad or Tablet. You have one hour to write the test. This month’s test includes an interactive question. The interactive question will differ by grade: Tangram for Grades 2 to 4, Chomp for Grades 5 to 10, and finally a GeomeTree construction involving triangles for Grades 11/12.  You can practice these now on Caribou’s Games page. Let Caribou know if you have any problems with the games.  Caribou strongly recommends familiarizing yourselves with these games before the contest.  Because certain games pages can be used to solve the questions, these will be blocked from Tuesday morning, November 12th, (start of the contest in the far East) to Thursday evening, November 15th at 8 pm EST.  For Grades 3 to 12, there will be a history question about Emmy Noether. Students in these grades should read the relevant section of Caribou’s History page in your preferred language to prepare.

After-care payments for October are now due and should be paid by November 15th, 2019.

There is no school for students on Friday as teachers will be participating in professional development activities.

There is no school on Monday to allow staff and families to attend Remembrance Day ceremonies at their local cenotaphs. Students are encouraged to wear a poppy in the days leading up to Remembrance Day.
