Structure and Function of the Skeletal System

We began our day with a math lesson. Today students learned how to divide a decimal by 10, 100, 1000, and 10 000. They used a calculator at first just to observe patterns. They then learned to do it mentally by shifting the number 1, 2, 3, or 4 places to the right, or by moving the decimal 1, 2, 3, or 4 places to the left respectively. After yesterday's lesson students found this pretty easy. Students are asked to complete practice questions on p. 141 and 142 of the MMS textbook.

In our inquiry unit on the human body we revisited the Body Words chart we created on Monday. Students were challenged to brainstorm any skeletal system body words they could add to the chart. Our collective chart is looking pretty impressive. Students were then given non-fiction texts about the human body. They were challenged to research information about the structure and function of the skeletal system. Students then shared their findings with the class. Ask your child what they discovered about the human skeleton today.

We then met  for our final group discussions of Shannen and the Dream for a School.

It was then time to head to Streetsville for tree decorating. Grade 6 students were well behaved while we were there. They made me proud!

Tomorrow is the science fair. Students should bring their display boards, science journals, and materials for their display. We will be setting up displays first thing tomorrow in the gym. Grade 6s will be presenting their projects to the judges during the day. Students are asked to be in full uniform for their presentations - no hoodies. Families are welcome to visit the science fair between 2:30 and 3:30 tomorrow.
