Divisibility Rules

In today's math time we took up question 6 from yesterday's homework. For today's lesson we explored number patterns and discovered that

  • even numbers are always divisible by 2
  • the sum of digits of numbers divisible by 3 are divisible by 3
  • numbers that are divisible by 4 have numbers in the one's and ten's place that are divisible by 4
  • numbers that are divisible by 6 are also divisible by 2 and 3, and more
We call these divisibility rules. Students are asked to complete only the specified questions below at home.

In our inquiry time, students continued working on their jot notes in class.

In language, we continued examining samples of student report writing. Grade 6s pointed out strengths and weaknesses  they saw in the samples. They were impressed with one particular sample that they felt was worthy of a level 4. We have made good progress in collecting criteria for our class anchor chart on report writing.

Also in language, we reviewed common and proper nouns. We discussed how some nouns are used as adjectives if they answer the question 'whose?' or 'what kind?' We reviewed the definition of verbs. Students identified and wrote verbs in sentences. We also discussed how the verb determines the tense of the sentence.

Grade 6s attended French and Gym class today.
