First Nations Comparisons

Our day began with our explorers’ inquiry unit. Grade 6s spent time doing map work and reviewing continents and Canada’s geographic and climate regions. They did further map work, recording the locations of Canada’s First Nations Peoples by geographic zones. Finally, they began work on reading information cards about Canada’s First Peoples, comparing these nations according to their environment. They are recording their findings in a comparison chart. Students who did not complete this work in class are asked to complete it for homework.

We discussed Chapters 5 & 6 of Tuck Everlasting during today’s novel study time. Students have been assigned the following reading: Chapters 7 & 8. They need to complete discussion pages 28 - 31 in the study guide. This work is due tomorrow. Any incomplete novel study work needs to be completed as homework.

Grade 6s had a double math period with Ms. Joseph today. They covered using variables in formulas and calculated perimeter and area. They also calculated the surface area of a rectangular prism. For homework they should complete Q. 1 – 6 on p. 96 and Q 1 & 3 on p. 99 of the MMS 7 book as well as the worksheet. Due to specialist conferences, Grade 6s did not attend any other specialist classes. They used this extra class time to work on their First Nations comparisons, their novel study, and their math work.

Forms and payment for the SJA Parent Guild Fun Skate event are due this Friday.
