Real World Safety Pledge

We started our final math unit today – Probability. Students conducted an experiment ten times and recorded their results. They wrote the result for each outcome as an experimental probability and predicted the results if the experiment was repeated 20 times and 50 times. Students then repeated the experiment and found that the actual results were different than expected. Once they compared their predicted outcomes to actual outcomes, they discovered that the more an experiment is repeated the more accurate the results. Students also wrote probabilities as fractions, percents, decimals and words. Students were assigned practice work on p. 156 – 159 of the MMS 6 workbook. Those who did not complete the practice work in class are asked to do this for homework. The probability unit test will be written on Tuesday, June 12th or Wednesday, June 13th.

During our inquiry time, we read and agreed to adhere to an Internet Safety Pledge and Real World Safety Pledge. We discussed how some characters in The Bridge to Terabithia did not follow the pledge, the consequences of not following the pledge, the risks they faced, and how they could have reduced the risks.

Grade 6s then worked on their Digital Footprint summative task. Students will need devices all week as they continue work on their summative task. The last day for groups to present to me is Thursday, June 7th. Students that are going to Thursday’s track meet will need to present their projects on Wednesday instead. Students may then present to their chosen class from Friday, June 8 – Tuesday, June 12th.
