Speech Finals

Day 7

We began our day with math class. We took up yesterday’s homework on relating distance, average speed, and time. Once this was done students began working on their review package. They are asked to complete review questions 1 – 3 in preparation for the unit test. Please bring the review package back to school as we will continue working on it in class tomorrow. The unit test will be written on Monday, March 6th.

We had novel study time when students returned from gym. We discussed the questions for chapters 19 and 20 of Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt as a class. Students are asked to read chapters 21 and 22 and complete response pages 53 to 58 for tomorrow. Their final project for the novel study is to write a summary of the book. This is due on Tuesday, March 7th. Students may begin working on this now if they wish. The summary prompts can be found on pages 69 – 72.

The oral contest against The Maples Academy took place in the middle of the day. Well done to Leah for taking second place in the junior division and well done to the class for being a great audience and supporting her!

At the end of the day students continued working on their final project for the explorers unit. Their challenge was to complete all their research notes today. They were asked to focus on the interaction between first peoples and early explorers and describe the changes both people groups experienced as a result of this interaction. Students will be planning their RSA Animate tomorrow. Devices are NOT needed for tomorrow’s class.

The timelines were due yesterday. Students who did not complete this task on time need to do so as soon as possible. Students should include the following explorers on their timeline:

  • Asians (Hwui Shan)
  • Irish (St. Brendan)
  • Vikings ( Bjarni Herjolfsson, Leif Eriksson, Thorfinn Karlsefni)
  • Portuguese ( Bartholomew Diaz, Vasco da Gama)
  • Spanish (Christopher Columbus)
  • English (John Cabot, Henry Hudson)
