Static Electricity

In today's math lesson, students worked on a review package to help prepare them for Thursday's unit test on Whole Numbers. Students are asked to ensure they have completed and corrected half the review package for homework if they did not get that far in class. We will work to complete the rest of the review package tomorrow.

In our inquiry time, students learned about static electricity. They used balloons to investigate the characteristics of static electricity.

Students then read about positive and negative charges and how like charges repel and unlike charges attract each other. Students can tell the overall charge on an object by examining the amount of positive and negative charges. Students used vocabulary like positive, negative, charges, repel, and attract to explain what happens when a charged balloon picks up pieces of paper.

In language, students worked on writing an expository paragraph.

Grade 6s attended Drama, French, and Gym class today.
