We had a fun
time exploring static electricity this morning. Students investigated this
phenomenon using balloons. Overall, students learned that a charge imbalance is
formed when an object is rubbed. This
can cause the object to repel or attract another object. They completed
worksheets demonstrating their understanding of electric charges.
They are to
complete the reading pages about static electricity for homework.
I sat with
Group 3 during today’s literature circle session and listened to their
discussion of Chapter 3 of The City of
Ember. The other groups had independent discussions. Students then had some class time to read
Chapter 4. For homework, they should complete the reading of Chapter 4 and
their assigned response. Our next discussion takes place tomorrow.
We had more
inquiry time later in the day. This time students learned about electromagnets
by building and testing an electromagnet, experimenting with magnets and iron
filings, and reading about electromagnets.
Students
need laptops for this week’s inquiry time. They will use their laptops for research
purposes tomorrow. They will need a spreadsheet such as Microsoft Excel or
Google Sheets for Wednesday’s inquiry work.
We ended the
day watching two different videos about ways to build electric cars.
Students
attended French and math classes today. Today’s math class was cut short due to
the Fall Fundraiser Assembly. Students took up the mid-unit review. They
completed a worksheet in class and reviewed LCM, GCF & square numbers and
square roots. The tentative date for the unit test is Monday, September 30th.
There has
been a change in the bake sale dates. The bake sale has been moved to October 1st
and 2nd. Our class is responsible for the bake sale that takes place
on these days. Students are asked to contribute bake sale items. These MUST be
PEANUT and NUT FREE. Thank you.
Lots of action is being shared in Grade 6!
