Our Fall
Fundraiser Assembly took place at 12:30 pm today. One of Ms. Foti’s students
was the top pledge raiser and chose to silly string Ms. Hocevar. Ms. Chin led
us in some fun popcorn-related games. Zeta was the winner in all these games.
Students received their popcorn orders today.
We started
our inquiry time watching electric car videos as a way to give us ideas on how
we may accomplish the science fair challenge. Students were required to
complete their first thumbnail sketch today.
We then began
exploring energy production in Ontario. Today’s learning goals were “Become
familiar with major types of electricity generation in Ontario (energy mix)
& Identify locations of generating stations in Ontario”. Students received
a copy of OPG’s Grade 6 Student Guide. They examined a map showing the
locations of OPG power generators in Ontario. They used their devices to look
up terms related to electricity (watts, kilowatts, megawatts). Students need
laptops for this week’s inquiry time. They will need a spreadsheet such as
Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets to graph information about energy production.
I sat with
Group 4 during today’s literature circle session and listened to their
discussion of Chapter 4 of The City of
Ember. The other groups had independent discussions. Students then had some class time to read
Chapter 5. For homework, they should complete the reading of Chapter 5 and
their assigned response.
Students
attended French, gym, and math classes today. Today’s math class was cut short
due to the Fall Fundraiser Assembly.
There has
been a change in the bake sale dates. The bake sale has been moved to October 1st
and 2nd. Our class is responsible for the bake sale that takes place
on these days. Students are asked to contribute bake sale items. These MUST be
PEANUT and NUT FREE. Thank you.
