Our second day in Grade 6 was another busy day. Students
spent most of their day working on their first term writing and reading
assessments. For writing, we will be working on narratives, specifically tales,
legends, and fables. Students wrote a story to describe how an animal got one
of its unique features. For reading, students completed the oral part of the
Grade 6 reading test. Each student received conference time where we discussed
individual strengths, areas that need improvement, and next steps. Ask your child
to tell you what we discussed. Most students also completed a survey about
their reading engagement.
Students were introduced to our first inquiry unit – Sharing
the Planet. We discussed the parts of this theme we are responsible for in
Grade 6, the central idea, key concepts, and lines of inquiry. We also
discussed the summative tasks for this unit. Students shared what they already
know about energy and our lines of inquiry. They also posed questions that they
have about this unit.
Finally, at the end of the day, students worked on writing
their own action-word poem. They used a checklist to ensure their poem
addressed all success criteria we discussed yesterday. They received peer feedback
on their poem and made improvements on their work based on the feedback they
received.
Students attended French class with Mme. Stella today.
