Polygons

We had two sections of class time where students continued working on our How we organize ourselves inquiry unit. Students were challenged to complete their ‘Welcome to _____, Canada’ research packages during these times. Incomplete research organizers need to be completed for homework.
I completed DRA conferences with students. Students were then called over to begin working on their IB portfolios. We still have a ways to go before everyone is done with their portfolios.
Students attended gym class with Mr. Orr, French class with Mme. Stella and math class with Ms. Joseph. In math, Ms. Joseph reviewed constructing triangles and introduced polygons. She discussed the properties of polygons:
A polygon is a closed figure with sides that are line segments. Exactly 2 sides meet at each vertex – the sides only intersect at the vertices.
Regular Polygon: A polygon where all sides and angles are equal. These have both line and rotational symmetry.
Convex Polygon: A polygon where all angles are less than 180 degrees.
Concave Polygon: A polygon where at least one angle is greater than 180 degrees.
She also discussed congruent triangles and the possibilities when two triangles can be congruent. For homework, students are to complete Page 252-253 Q 1,2,4,5 & 7. Page 258 Q 2. The math unit test needs to be signed by the parent.
