I
heard many great reviews about yesterday’s Year Ahead Day from the Grade 6s.
Many of them are ready to abandon me right now and move on to Upper School!
We
had three goals for our three sections of inquiry time today. All these related
to completing the ‘Welcome to _____, Canada’ video. In the first session
students were challenged to complete their storyboard which included writing a
persuasive script. This was a challenge for many as they just listed PEPS
features instead of explaining the relevance or importance to possible
newcomers. Secondly, they had to upload their chosen images to their video
editing software. Lastly, they had to record their narration, check that their
voices are audible, upload their video to YouTube and send me their link (mhaag@stjudesacademy.com). Remember
to disable comments on your YouTube account. Students who did not complete this
project in class are encouraged to come in early tomorrow, 8:15 am, to catch up
on their work. Laptops are needed tomorrow as students continue working on
their videos.
Students attended French class with Mme. Stella and math class
with Ms. Joseph. In math, Ms. Joseph took up the
homework on translation. She introduced reflections and rotations of a
figure. A reflection is when a figure is reflected in a mirror line to
create a congruent image. When a figure is reflected, all points are
reflected by the same mirror line. A rotation is when a figure turned
about (around) a fixed point, called the turn centre. For homework students
are to complete the worksheet on reflection as textbook Pages 264/265 - Q 1, 2,
3 & 5.
