We
started our day attending a Pancake Tuesday assembly. Students in their three
houses competed against each other to be the first to eat all pancakes. Well done
to Zeta, Kappa, and Theta for placing first, second, and third respectively.
We
had three sessions of inquiry time today. In the first session, students were
challenged to complete the remaining two sections of their graphic organizer
regarding their country’s PEPS features. The rewards for achieving this was
getting to go out for recess. Most students completed this work in the time allotted.
In the second and third sessions, students were required to complete their research
about their country’s offerings (connections) and needs (causation). I
conferenced with students throughout this time to check on their note-taking
and research skills. Some students made excellent use of this conferencing time
and met with me multiple times to receive feedback. Others were more reluctant
and only met with me when I called them over.
Students
received a tutorial on how to use Word and Google Docs to create a trifold brochure.
Devices are needed tomorrow and Thursday as we work on this project. Brochures
are due on Friday.
I
complete all OWA conferences this morning. The OWA post-assessment task is
scheduled to take place on Friday.
Students attended French and math class today. In math, Ms. Joseph reviewed the homework on
tree diagrams and introduced relative frequency. Relative frequency is the
number of times an outcome occurs divided by the number of times the experiment
is conducted. This is also called experimental probability. For homework,
students are to complete Q 1, 2 & 3 from page 413 of their textbooks.
Continue fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart.
The next Caribou contest will be taking place Wednesday, February
26th, 2020. Students are to arrive at 7:15 am for a 7:30 am start. They should
bring their own charged devices.
The interactive question for Grades 2-10 will be Bomb Defuser and for Grade 11/12 it will be GeomeTree requiring a construction involving lines and circles. Because Caribou’s GeomeTree site can be used to solve the interactive question, this site will be blocked at noon on Tuesday, February 25th. Both interactive questions are accessible from Caribou’s Games/History page. Contact Caribou directly if you have any problems with the games. There will be no history question in the February contest.
