We
had two sessions of inquiry time today. In the first session, we reviewed HDI
concepts. Students learned about the Global Village concept. Ask your child what
this is and what surprised them.
Later
in the day students received their Ambassador’s Tea Party Packages. They learned
that they will learning about a developing country and its PEPS connections and
needs/offerings (causation). We reviewed the expectations of the project.
Students then looked at the 2019 HDI Rankings and chose a developing country to
work on. Student choices are:

Stduents
then sprang into action, researching at least two PEPS features related to
their country. Students who did not complete these 2 sections are to complete
them for homework. No extra sections may be completed at home – this will be
done in class tomorrow. Developing country brochures are due on Friday. Devices
are needed for the rest of the week.
Students
are reminded to study for the unit test. All developing countries that were chosen
by students today have been pinned and may be on the unit test. Study hard,
everyone.
Devices
will be needed all next week.
Students
are bringing marked work home today. Parents. Please ask to see, review, and
sign your child’s ‘Welcome to ____, Canada’ video and the Canada v. USA Venn
diagram.
Students attended music, phys. Ed., French, and math class today.
In math Today, Ms. Joseph introduced the new unit - Probability. She reviewed Friday’s
homework on converting between fraction, percent and decimal. She modeled how
to use tree diagrams to solve probability problems. A tree diagram is used
to show possible outcomes in a situation that has two or more actions. Students
discussed the possible outcomes of tossing two coins while using a tree
diagram. They practiced Q 4 from the textbook. For homework they are to complete
Q 1-6 from page 409.
Continue fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart.
The next Caribou contest will be taking place Wednesday, February
26th, 2020. Students are to arrive at 7:15 am for a 7:30 am start. They should
bring their own charged devices.
The interactive question for Grades 2-10 will be Bomb Defuser and for Grade 11/12 it will be GeomeTree requiring a construction involving lines and circles. Because Caribou’s GeomeTree site can be used to solve the interactive question, this site will be blocked at noon on Tuesday, February 25th. Both interactive questions are accessible from Caribou’s Games/History page. Contact Caribou directly if you have any problems with the games. There will be no history question in the February contest.
