We certainly had a busy day after the long weekend.
Next, we had a presentation about social media. This was hosted by a Peel police officer.
Students had
French class with Mme. Stella.
We then
worked on our hot-air balloon Papier-mâché project. Our classroom was very messy and noisy, and filled with
laughter and happy faces. My apologies to parents for the messy clothing coming
home today.
Next, we had a presentation about social media. This was hosted by a Peel police officer.
During
language time I had conferences with students regarding their OWA pre-assessment
task. We discussed their areas of strength and areas that need improvement. The
post-assessment will be written on Thursday. In between conferences, students
chose a poem they have written to submit to the Polar Expressions poetry
competition. Some chose to write a new poem from scratch. Students who had
completed their science fair project worked on the Polar Expressions short
story.
Incomplete
science fair projects were worked on during second recess and lunch. Tomorrow
is the last day to complete this work. Students are encouraged to come to
school early, 8 am, to give them more time to work on their science fair
projects. For tomorrow only, those who are still not done my stay until 5 pm to
complete their work. Students who have now completed the project in its
entirety practiced their presentation to the judges while referring the judge’s
scoring card.
We had more
inquiry time at the end of the day where we learned more about the forces
acting on an airplane. Ask your child to tell you what camber is.
Look out for
Bernoulli’s test coming home today. Review these, sign them, and return them to
school tomorrow.
Pictures are
coming home today.
The next Caribou Contest takes place tomorrow Wednesday, November 13th,
2019. Participants are to arrive at 7:15 am for a 7:30 am start. Bring a
charged device, preferably a laptop, iPad or Tablet. You have one hour to write
the test. This month’s test includes an interactive question. The interactive
question will differ by grade: Tangram for Grades 2 to 4, Chomp for Grades 5 to
10, and finally a GeomeTree construction involving triangles for Grades
11/12. You can practice these now on Caribou’s Games page. Let
Caribou know if you have any problems with the games. Caribou strongly recommends familiarizing
yourselves with these games before the contest. Because certain games
pages can be used to solve the questions, these will be blocked from Tuesday
morning, November 12th, (start of the contest in the far East) to
Thursday evening, November 15th at 8 pm EST.
For Grades 3 to 12, there will be a history question about Emmy Noether.
Students in these grades should read the relevant section of Caribou’s
History page in your preferred language to prepare.
After-care payments for October are now due and should be paid by November
15th, 2019.
Please read the letter from Oakwood Academy, our sister school:
Dear Oakwood and St. Jude’s Families,
We will be celebrating World Kindness Day on Wednesday, November 13th, 2019! Created in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement,
this unofficial holiday encourages people to spread happiness, joy, and peace
through kindness. The Oakwood and St. Jude’s community will be creating a
Kindness Rainbow around the school representing inclusiveness towards all
students. Students will be able to purchase 3 paper chain links for $2 to write
words of kindness or draw a picture on. They will return the links to be added
to the Kindness Rainbow. All participating students will also be able to dress
in casual clothes for the day! If you wish to participate in this event, please
fill out the form below and return with $2 by Tuesday November 12 th,
2019.
If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact: Erica Brunet ebrunet@oakwoodacademy.ca or
