Our day was
packed with investigations which are helping students to learn about the
properties of air. We will continue these investigations tomorrow. Students are
to add any new learning to their “Properties of Air’ mind map. Mind maps are
due on Monday. Working on the mind map will help students prepare for the properties
of air test that takes place on Tuesday, October 29th.
We discussed
the final chapter of The City of Ember
during today’s novel study time. Students will be writing a book report in
class next week. Students who have fallen behind with the reading of any of the
chapters or with keeping up-to-date with the organizer should get caught up
before Monday in order to be best prepared for writing the book report.
We continued
working on our ‘Before Midnight...’ poems. Students who had not already done so
completed the writing of their poem’s first draft. They used a checklist to
assess their own work.
Grade 6s
attended French, P.E., and math class today. Yesterday in math, students were introduced to
the new unit - Geometry and Measurement. This unit is about representing
3-D objects and finding the surface area and volume of boxes – rectangular
prisms. Students used linking cubes to make 3-D objects and discussed the
different views. Students completed questions 1-3 from the textbook. For
homework they were to complete questions 4-7.
November Lunches – Do not order for November 21st as we
will be on a field trip this day.
The lunch site is now open. It will close Wednesday,
October 30th at 3:00pm.
Special of the month: Chicken Stir Fry which
is available every Friday
All payments are to be made through QuickBooks by November 6th.
Students who raised $40 or more for the Fall Fundraiser will be going to
the Glow Zone tomorrow. These students only should come to school dressed in
their gym uniform. We will have a regular school day tomorrow. Students not attending
the trip will have some much needed time to work on their science fair
projects.
Our collection of ‘Lost and Found’ items is piling up. Please make some
time to come into the school building and a look through the lost and found
items. These are now located in the GYM. On November 8th at 4pm all
left over items will be donated to the local Salvation Army.
