Finalising the Research

We had novel study time today. Students met in groups to discuss Chapter 9 of The City of Ember. Students had some time to read Chapter 10 in class. Their response should be completed for homework if they did not get done in class. Our next discussion takes place on Monday.

Students attended French, music, gym, and math classes today.  In math, Ms. Joseph introduced students to ratios. They discussed part-to-part ratios and part-to-whole ratios. Students are reminded that a ratio can be used to compare parts of a whole and one part of a whole to another part of the whole. The worked on problems that practiced these concepts. For homework, students are complete Q. 1-3, 5, 6, 7, and 8 on pages 47 – 48.
The class continued to work on their summative task for our energy unit. Today’s goal was for everyone to complete slides. Students were reminded to include all required information as per their checklist and rubric, and to limit the information in bullet points only. Groups that did not complete this work in class time provided were required to use their recess time to get caught up. Many groups are still working on their research, especially groups that have chosen the Uranium Power project. All groups were asked to regularly check in with me to show me their progress and to get feedback on the quality of their work. Students needed to get the ‘go ahead’ from me before proceeding to their slides. All students used second recess time to get caught up on their work. Devices are needed for this summative task all next week. Students will be presenting their work on Wednesday or Thursday.
 

Students should continue their research on Madagascar. Remember to research and prepare a traditional dish from Madagascar for International Day. Let me know when you have decided on a dish.
