We began our
day working on language. We continued exploring persuasive writing in the
format of a letter. We read student samples of persuasive letter writing and
generated a list of criteria that make for an effective piece of writing. I have
now completed conferencing with all students. Students are aware of their areas
of strength and areas that need improvement. Students will be writing their OWA
post-assessment tomorrow, applying their learning to produce an improved piece
of persuasive letter writing.
Next we
worked on our Canada in the World inquiry unit. Students continued working on
their ‘Welcome to _______, Canada’ summative task. Today’s goal was to complete
the storyboard, where the frames, titles/captions/legends, and narration for
each scene of the video was planned. Students
were also required to locate and save images they will need for each scene. We
will be creating the video tomorrow. Devices are needed for this task as well
as the chosen software for video editing.
We spent a
little more time discussing the Group of Seven and their style of art. We also
watched a couple of tutorials on how to paint in the style of the Group of Seven.
Some of the take-aways from these videos are that the subject are Ontario
features (especially wilderness landscape), features are exaggerated, much
colour mixing is required, and there is an emphasis on colour, shape, and
value. Students should choose an Ontario landscape image or Group of Seven
piece that they would like to imitate.
Students had
gym, French and math class today. For French homework, students are to complete
the Le Pronom ‘Y’ worksheet. In math, students reviewed the following
transformations.
·
A translation moves a figure along a
straight line
·
A reflection is a flip. The figure and
it image face opposite ways and are the same distance from the mirror line
·
A rotation is a turn. The figure and its
image may face different ways.
Students practiced questions from the textbook. For
homework they are complete Q. 2 on P. 264 of the MMS 7 textbook as well as the worksheet.
Ms. Joseph suggests students refer to the following
videos:
The tentative date for the next math unit test is Monday 4,
2019.
Re-registration packages are past due. Please send these in as soon as
possible. We look forward to seeing you back for next year!
Graduation & sibling photos
will be taken tomorrow. Students should be in full academic uniform – no hoodies
or house ties.
