We began our
day working on our Canada in the World inquiry unit. Our goal was to watch and
reflect on all ‘Welcome to ____, Canada’ videos at the beginning of the day.
However, only half the videos were ready. We will watch the remaining videos
first thing tomorrow morning.
Next, students
received the package that will guide them through their next summative task, ‘The
Ambassador’s Tea Party’. We went through the package, ensuring everyone
understood the expectations. Students then set about researching their chosen
developing country. An updated list of student names and their countries can be
found below. First, students recorded what they already know and what they
would like to know about their country. Secondly, they were required to
complete the graphic organiser, ensuring they had addressed each of the items
on their checklist. Finally, they were to complete the ‘what they have learned’
part about their country. A number of students completed this work in class
time. Those who have not completed it are asked to complete it for homework.
The completed work is due tomorrow. Students may need devices tomorrow if they
complete the rough draft of their brochure.

Students
will be creating a brochure that presents the PEPS features of their chosen developing
country. They are invited to share the brochures and form trade connections
with ambassador’s from other developing countries at the Ambassador’s Tea
Party, this Friday, March 1st. Students are to come dressed to well represent
their country. They are also asked to supply a small plate of treats for the
tea party, e.g. shortbread biscuits or cucumber sandwiches. I will supply the
tea.
Students
will be writing the UOI test on Tuesday, March 5th. They should be
reviewing all work covered so far in this unit, including map work.
We used our
last bit of class time to finish up discussing the essential features of exhibition.
We also discussed the role of the student in exhibition. Please ask your child to tell you what they
understand about exhibition so far.
Students had
music, French and math class today. In math, students used
transformations to make designs. They practiced questions from the
textbook and worksheet. They discussed questions on describing shapes from the
review worksheet. Students are reminded to describe the attributes of all sides
(equal, parallel) and angles (acute, obtuse, right, equal). For homework
they are to try to complete Question No. 1, 2 & 3 from the review worksheet.
The tentative date for the next math unit test is Monday, March 4th,
2019.
We will be visiting Grade 10 Personal Project Presentations will take
place on Wednesday, February 27th.
Tomorrow is Casual Day.
