We spent
yesterday morning and this morning working our inquiry unit. Yesterday, students
completed the final stages of their procedure write up, prepared their data
collection chart, and built their planes. They then went outside and conducted
5 trials for each plane. It was very cold outside and this helped motivate
everyone to conduct the trials as quickly as possible. Everyone was relieved to
be back inside. They calculated the average distance traveled for each plane.
Students then entered their data into a spreadsheet and graphed the results. We
paid attention to capitalization rules for titles and labels. Students could go
out for recess if they sent me their graphs.
Today,
students received their printed graphs. Those who are behind worked to get
caught up. Grade 6s analysed their results and accepted or rejected their
hypothesis. They reflected on the scientific process. Once their work was
checked for completion, students were allowed to use their learning to
construct the paper plane for the air show. We had the airshow later in the
day. This was a lot of fun. Well done to JD, Miriam, and Lucas for producing
the planes that flew the farthest.
After-care
payments are past today and interest is accruing. The lunch ordering system for
December is open.
Students
attended music, math and gym class today. In math, students worked on sketching
views of 3-D solids. For homework they should complete their worksheet.
Picture
retakes take place tomorrow.
