We began our
day with our inquiry into flight. Today, students considered what makes a plane
move. They then participated in an investigation where they followed
instructions to build the ‘Express fly’. This proved to be challenging as
considerable fine motor skills were required to complete this task. Once the E
Fly was built students began testing it. They observed its flight with straight
flaps, both flaps up, both flaps down, one flap up and the other down, and
adding a weight at the front of the E fly. This was a noisy but fun activity.
Students recorded their observations. They were then allowed to make a further
modification to their plans and test the device. As a class we discussed what
we observed and what the results of this investigation were. Students then
identified the control, independent, and dependent variables in this
investigation.
Remaining
class time was used to work on science fair. Students could go out to first
recess if they had completed their projects in entirety. Seven students have
now completed the whole science fair project.
The class
continued working on their Polar Expressions short story submission as per the criteria
discussed last week. Three students are now working on their good copies.
Grade 6s
attended music, French and math today.
Curling trip
permission and waiver forms are now past due.
