We began our
day with our inquiry into flight. We took up yesterday’s worksheets about the
four forces of flight, the parts of a plane, and the movements of planes. Students
wrote a quiz about the parts of a plane. They have received review worksheets
related to parts of a plane and the movements of planes. These need to be
completed for homework. Students received the outline for the second last
project for this unit. They will be exploring our last line of inquiry, namely
“Societal and environmental impacts of flying devices that make use of the
properties of air” through the lens of causation. Students partnered up with
someone that they have not worked with yet this year. Together they chose a
topic they would like to explore. The also had the option of choosing their own
topic. The groups and topics are as follows:

They had one
hour of class time to generate 3 questions to guide their inquiries and find
the answer to their questions. During their research they were required to
·
describe
the relationship between their topic and flight
·
identify
the relationship as societal or environmental
·
describe
impact the one has on the other
Tomorrow,
they will receive class time to work on their presentations. Presentations will
take place on Thursday. Devices are needed for this work on these days.
Students who
have not completed their science fair project stayed in during first recess to
work on this.
We had 20
minutes of catch-up time later in the day. This was used for:
1. Completing the science fair project.
Eighteen students have completed their projects.
2. Polar Expressions writing. Students
have been working on writing an original short story to enter in the contest.
Their story is being peer edited before a good copy is written.
3. Working on their art/science &
technology kite projects
Students who
have completed the above list met with me to conference about their OWA on
fable and legend writing. Together we read their original writing, and generated
a list of their strengths and areas for improvement. Students reviewed the
class-generated list of success criteria for a successful fable or legend.
These students then began working on writing a new and improved legend or
fable.
This is a
pattern of work we will do this week.
Grade 6s

to write the test.
