Day 10
In math we
continued working on whole numbers. We took up yesterday’s homework. Today`s
lesson on adding and subtracting numbers was easy. Everyone is already familiar
with place-value adding and subtracting. We worked through a couple of
examples. We took time to estimate to the tens and hundreds place to check the
reasonableness of our answers. For subtracting, students used the inverse
operation to check their answer. As students worked through the practice
problems, we discovered that this work is a weakness for some. Those students
should review addition and subtraction facts in order to improve. Grade 6s are
asked to complete practice questions on p. 62 - 63 of the MMS textbook.
Next up was
UOI time. Sai shared his presentation on what it means to be knowledgeable. He
used Noel Webster and the Wright brothers as examples of people who were
knowledgeable in their specific fields. He invited the class to share examples
of when they were knowledgeable. Thank you, Sai.
Next in UOI
time, we finished up the activity on troubleshooting electrical problems which we
were meant to do yesterday. Students worked with a partner to try solve these
problems. We then took them up in class. Students then worked on writing a
letter of advice to explain how to fix an electrical problem. We reviewed the
parts of a letter before beginning our responses. At the end of UOI time,
students worked on their science fair project. We read through the science fair
task again. Students then worked to describe what they and their car are
expected to do in clear and precise language and detail. Students who did not
complete this work will work on it in class tomorrow.
Please
remember that Grade 6s will be writing test tomorrow on all we have learned so
far in our electricity UOI. Students should review and study from all the UOI notes
in their binders, including today`s work.
Students attended
French, Music and Gym classes today.
