It was a
busy first day back at school. We began with an activity to help us get to know
each other. Students created a name page that included their interests. Groups
of students got to know the interests of those sitting at their table. Everyone
then had a turn to introduce someone to the class. It was a nice way for
everyone to start warming up their oral presentation and listening skills.
Students
then listened to a presentation about expectations regarding their mind set, failure,
being internationally minded, using the action cycle as we learn, behaviour,
house spirit, and routines. Please ask your child what we discussed.
We then did
a walk about the school for everyone to become familiar with where rooms are in
the building and what the boundaries are during recess. All this took so long
that we missed first recess :-(. We aim to do better tomorrow.
The 6s
attended French class with Mme. Stella and Gym class with Mr. Slyk.
Once the 6s
got back to room 16 they worked through a test to determine their understanding
of concepts involving whole numbers.
After second
recess the class got their binders and dividers organised. These are coming
home today. Students read about the benefits of reading. As an exit ticket students
had to tell me why they should read daily. The Grade 6 class is challenged to
read for 30 minutes each day. They should complete an entry in their reading
log daily. Reading logs will be checked on Fridays.
At the end
of the day we headed to the auditorium for a house game. Well done to Zeta for
winning the first round and to Theta for winning the second round.
