Grade 6s attended Art class with Ms. Kerr and Gym class with
Mr. Slyk this morning.
We continued
working on our International Day presentation. We still need large pieces of
cardboard for our display. Students are also to research traditional food of
Guam and commit to bringing or making a plate of food if they haven’t already
done so. Please remember to keep all food nut free. All research needs to be
given to Cayden by today. Dancers, please look at getting grass skirts from the
Dollar Store.
Most of our math
time was used up going over yesterday’s practice problems, as many students
said they found the work hard. As a result we did not complete the new lesson
on volume and there is no new homework assigned for math today. Instead,
students are asked to try yesterday’s homework again.
After math, we continued
working on persuasive speeches. Today students considered the ideas they have
brainstormed. They were asked to choose one they would be excited to write
about, or are knowledgeable about. Your child will be asking you for your
thoughts on their speech topic tonight. All topics must be decided today and
submitted to me by tomorrow. Some students have already decided on and
submitted their topics to me.
Next up was UOI
time. Our Picasso-style self-portraits are now on display in the school and
they look spectacular! In today’s UOI time, we reviewed primary and secondary
colours using wax crayons. We also discussed the elements of design and how
many elements we have already used in our art pieces during this unit. We then
watched a tutorial on how to make tints and shades. Students practiced this
skill using tempera paints. Students will be using tints and shades in our new
art piece that we begin tomorrow.
Grade 6s will
begin playing recorder in art class with Ms. Kerr at the beginning of February.
Students who have previously ordered
and stored recorders at the school will have theirs made available to them
on Feb. 1st for the first session. Students who do not have a
recorder already in the recorder bin from last year, must bring a recorder to
school by Jan. 22nd, or order one through the school. Order forms will be
coming home tomorrow.
The school panoramic picture will be taken tomorrow.
Please be in full uniform for this picture.
