After gym, we discussed what progress has been made for International Day which is coming up later this month. Please see a letter about International Day at the end of today’s blog post. Everyone has something to work on or research today.
In math time, we
took up yesterday’s homework. We did a new lesson on money to $10 000. Students were required to make reasonable
estimates and find the sums. They also compared estimated amounts to actual
amounts to determine if their estimates were reasonable. For homework, students
should complete practice questions on p. 216 - 217 of the MMS textbook.
In writing time
I finished up conference time with students about their expository paragraphs.
We had a lesson on comma and semicolon use. Grade 6s then practiced using
commas and semicolons in sentences.
During UOI time,
Grade 6s were challenged be creative and complete their tessellations. Any
incomplete tessellations are coming home to be completed for homework.
Look out for
February hot lunch order forms, Scholastic book order forms, and after-care
invoices all coming home today.

Casual Day – Wednesday, January 27
Dear SJA Families,
As part of being an IB school we encourage students to
demonstrate ‘International Mindedness’. At St. Jude’s Academy, we value the
diversity of cultures and perspectives that exist in our local, national and
global communities to enhance student learning.
This year, St. Jude’s Academy will be having our third
annual International Mindedness Day on Friday, January 22, 2016. This activity
will involve JK – Gr. 6 classes and each class will be learning about one
country. Students and teachers will inquire into the life and culture of
citizens from that country.
Students will be researching many aspects of their country
including:
Traditional music and dress
Artwork and dance
Cuisine
Cultural toys, games & sports
Products and exports
Interesting laws/policies
Rules and customs
Parents are welcome to visit on this day and doors will be
open from 2:30pm to 3:15pm.
If you have any questions or would like to contribute
cultural items, suggestions, etc., please contact your child’s homeroom teacher
or Mrs. Padovan (kpadovan@stjudesacademy.com) and Ms. Bannon
(jbannon@stjudesacademy.com).
Thank you!
Mrs. Padovan & Ms. Bannon
