Imports and Exports

Grade 6s had French class with Mme. Villeneuve and Gym class with Mr. Slyk this morning.

After gym I listened to everyone’s conclusions. Many students received suggestions on how to improve their conclusions. Revised conclusions are due tomorrow.

After recess and lunch we had math time. We took up yesterday’s homework. Today’s lesson was about familiar figures. Ask your child to explain the difference between familiar and congruent figures. Students are asked to complete the practice questions on p. 262 & 263 of the MMS textbook.

We had UOI time before recess. Our big ideas for today were understanding exports and imports. Students discussed the reasons we import and export products in groups. We then discussed these as a class. Students then read about imports and exports on their own or with a group. They then worked on questions to demonstrate their understanding of import/export concepts. We took these up before students headed out for recess.

After recess, we had a quick discussion on a project students will be working on next week. They will be researching a product that Canada exports to another country. Students were asked to team up with someone who has a device with Movie Maker or similar software. Students will be producing a video on their topic. We still have to finalise a few groupings and topics tomorrow. Students will need devices for research and creating the video all next week.

We then headed to an awards assembly, where we got to hear the winners of the science fair. Well done ……
