The Fur Trade

Grade 6s had French class with Mme. Villeneuve and Gym class with Mr. Slyk this morning.

I managed to meet with everyone to hear the first draft of their introductory paragraphs. Everyone has received feedback and is now writing the revised introduction paragraph. These are due tomorrow.

After recess and lunch we had math time. We took up yesterday’s homework. Most students did not label the vertices of the figures and images they drew with labels or coordinates. They have been reminded to do this for today’s practice work. Today’s lesson was about combined transformations. It really helps to use tracing paper when tracking multiple transformations. Students were encouraged to take tracing paper home with them. Students are asked to complete the practice questions on p. 254 & 255 of the MMS textbook.

When checking homework, I discovered that many students had not completed their map work homework. They are reminded to do this today. We used the time before recess to research Canada’s top 10 exports. Students worked independently to learn about the importance of trade. After recess we took this work up. We then watched a short video about the beaver pelt trade. Students then read about the history of trade in Canada. Students spent the last few minutes of class time quizzing each other about Canada’s provinces and territories.

Look out for Pancake Breakfast order forms coming home today. These are due on Friday.

Look out for skiing permission forms coming home today. These are due on Thursday.
