The Odyssey

Grade 6s attended French class with Mme. Villeneuve and Gym class with Ms. Lovan this morning.

Our class time began with writing. Grade 6s began working on writing the procedure on how to build the final version of their electric cars. The challenge that has been set is for students to use scientific/technological vocabulary and to include sufficient detail that someone reading their procedure would be able to build a replica of their car.

In our data management unit, we took up yesterday’s homework on making inferences. We began a new lesson on median. We first took time to review how to find the mean and mode of a set of data. Ask your child to describe the difference between and how to find mean, mode, and median. There was some class time to work on practice questions. Students are asked to complete practice questions on p. 174 & 175 of the MMS textbook.

In literature circles students used their roles to discuss chapter 12 of The Lightning Thief. Students had some time to read chapter 13. They are asked to reflect on chapter 13 using their new role.

Students were placed into groups for their final project on ancient civilizations during UOI time today. Grade 6s have finished working on The Iliad with Ms. Kerr and are now beginning work on The Odyssey. To support student understanding of the plot, characters, and themes, we watched an animated version of The Odyssey in class today. Grade 6s enjoyed this show!

Students are asked to wear a poppy between now and Remembrance Day.
