Inferences

As I went to publish today’s blog, I discovered that yesterday’s never got published. I am not sure why, but my apologies if you needed it to check yesterday’s homework assignments. It is posted now. Be sure to check out some of the photos from yesterday’s symposium.

Students attended Art class with Ms. Kerr and Gym class with Ms. Lovan this morning.

We spent this morning’s writing time preparing our submissions to the Polar Expressions competition. Students selected either their action poem or Haiku for submission. They then wrote a neat copy of this poem. Students handed in the typed copy of their adventure story. We also checked that everyone has handed in their entry form. Some students worked to complete the entry form in class. Students who still need to hand in poems, stories, and/or forms have been reminded to do so.

We began a new math unit today on data management. In today’s lesson we made inferences from bar, circle, and line graphs. We lost a chunk of math time working on learner profile attributes (thinker) and attitudes (confident) which meant that there was no class time for the practice questions in class. Students are asked to complete practice questions on p. 170 & 171 of the MMS textbook.

We had time for literature circles today, where students used their roles to discuss chapter 11 of The Lightning Thief. Students had some time to read chapter 12. They are asked to reflect on chapter 12 using their new role.

There are still a number of Grade 6s that have not shown me all 3 trials for their electric cars. I have spoken to these students, reminding them to bring their cars and design portfolios tomorrow.

We took up the last ancient Greece activity pages today and read about Apollo. We discussed ancient civilizations that students are interested in researching further for their final project. Each students chose 3 that they are interested in. I will use their choices to help me in group selections. Grade 6s had their last bit of class time to finish up their research on ancient Greece.

Look out for a letter coming home today about a PD Day camp being offered at SJA on Friday. Child-care invoices are coming home with some students today.

Students are asked to wear a poppy between now and Remembrance Day.
