We began this short week with a spirit assembly. Houses
competed against each other in an egg and spoon race. Congratulations to Zeta,
Theta, and Kappa placing first, second, and third respectively. Caring Awards
were handed out at this morning’s assembly. Our Grade 6 students proved that
they have this quality by snapping up the caring award for gym, French, and
music.

Next we had math. This weekend I caught up on checking
math homework for everyone who handed their practice books in to me. There were
some common areas that many students were making mistakes in. We took time to
take up problem areas common to most students. Students then continued working
on practice work involving the area of triangles. They are asked to correct and
complete all questions on MMS 6 p. 132 – 141 and MMS 7 p. 122 – 128 if they did
not get done in class today.
Students participating in tomorrow’s Caribou math contest
are asked to arrive at 7:15 am tomorrow Wednesday, April 4th. The
test will be written in our classroom, Room 8. Students need their devices.
They will receive their access codes on this day. They will have 1 hour to
write the test starting at 7:30 am. Caribou has supplied me with this hint for
tomorrow’s test: ‘The
interactive question will be Floodfill which your students can practice on our
games page. There will be no history question.’
We continued working on exhibition for the remainder of
the day. First students reflected on the work they have done in the past week
by recording a journal entry. The reflected on their groups, issues, mentors,
knowledge gained on the issue, and what they plan to work on this week.
The deforestation group was out on their site visit
conducting their primary source interview today. The mental health group
conducted one of their interviews today. Groups that remained at school were
challenged to finalise their concept questions, central idea, and lines of inquiry.
The next priority is organise the primary source (site visit and/or interview),
action ideas and planning, and keep researching to answer all concept questions
and address all lines of inquiry.

Today I completed conferences with four groups whose
questions, central idea, and lines of inquiry have been approved. Students
attended scheduled mentor meetings throughout the day. At the end of the day, M.
Fuoad joined our class and supported students in their work.
The Grade 6s attended gym class today.
Students are reminded to return their rock climbing trip forms.
