Day 5
We began our
day with math. We took up yesterday’s work on similar figures. We then did a
new lesson on symmetry. Students received grid paper and square dot paper to
help them complete their work. Students are asked to complete practice
questions on p. 269 of the MMS textbook.
Next up was
novel study time. We discussed the discussion questions for chapters 7 and 8 of
Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt as a class.
Students are asked to read chapters 9 and 10 and complete response pages
32 to 36 for Monday, February 13th. We will have novel studies on each day that
we do NOT have music.
Next we
worked on speeches. I am more than half way checking introductions and
conclusions. Students who have completed this work read through their speeches
to get an idea of how long the speech is. This information tells students if
the speech is too long, too short, or falls in the time parameter of 3 to 5
minutes. These students are asked to write a revised and edited copy of the
speech in order by tomorrow. They should also think of a title for their
speech. Students who are behind on their speech writing stayed in during recess
to try get caught up. These students are encouraged to catch up for homework
and show me their work tomorrow.
During
inquiry time students learned about their new project where they will be
creating a timeline about the European explorers as we begin our second line of
inquiry into early explorers. Students will work on the timeline throughout
this section of the unit. The project will be due at the end of the section. We
learned about the features of a timeline. Students completed a preassessment to
determine what they already know about early explorers and their interaction
with indigenous people.
Students
attended French, and gym class today.
A few
students have not yet returned their City
of Ember books. Please do this as soon as possible.
Look out for
term 3 DRAs coming home today.
French trip
letters and payment are due on Friday.
