Day 9
We began our
day with math. Students continued working through their review packages and were
asked to complete all questions in order to go out for recess. I have checked
almost all questions for everyone. The
Measurement unit test will be written tomorrow.
Next up was
novel study time. We discussed the discussion questions for chapters 1 and 2 of
Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt as a class. Students are asked to read chapters 3 and 4
and complete response pages 13 to 19 for Friday, Feb. 3rd. We will
have novel studies on each day that we do NOT
have music.
It was then
time to work on speeches. I checked that the research and essay organizer were
completed. As a class we discussed how to write the first reason paragraph.
Students then used class time to write the paragraph. Students who had written
their first paragraph had someone peer edit for them. Students should ask
parents for feedback on how to improve the Reason 1 paragraph tonight. Revised
copies of the first paragraph need to be rewritten and are due tomorrow. Students
that did not complete Reason 1 paragraph need to complete it for homework.
During
inquiry time we continued work on our new Explorers unit. Today we considered
how the first peoples came to be on the North American continent by looking at
the perspective of Aboriginal and First Nations. We read and compared two
different creations stories.
Students
attended gym and French class today.
A few
students have not yet returned their City
of Ember books. Please do this as soon as possible.
Look out for
a letter about March Break coming home today.
The Grade 6
class is having Graduation photos taken tomorrow. Please come in full uniform.
Reregistration
It is hard
to believe, but the time is here already – re-registration is upon us!
Re-registrations forms have been sent home. The deadline to re-register is
February 9. After that we open up spaces to the public. Do not delay – reserve
your spot today for grade 7!
