Day 7
We had an
unusual day today. Much of our class time had students either working on their Canada’s
Trading Partners brochure or on their improved Ontario Writing Assessment
piece.
Students
that worked on the writing assessment today began by having individual
conference time with me. During this time we read their tale/legend. We then
discussed their areas of strengths and areas that they need to improve on.
Students then began work on writing an improved tale/legend.
Students
that did not have a writing conference today used class time to search the
internet using key words for reliable sources for the physical, economic,
political, and social features of their chosen country. They recorded their
notes into a graphic organiser using a checklist to keep them on track. Many
students who were working on this today made great progress.
Our math
lesson took place later in the day. We took up yesterday’s homework on
multiplying decimals by 10, 100, 1000, and 10 000. We then did today’s lesson
on dividing decimals by 10, 100, 1000, and 10 000. We again used a place-value
chart to do this. Students learned that they can do this by either moving the
digits to the right or the decimal to the left depending on the number of zeros
in 10, 100, 1000, or 10 000. Students
are asked to complete practice work on p. 141 - 142 of the MMS textbook.
The class attended
gym and French class today.
During novel
study time students discussed chapter 14 in their literature circle groups.
Everyone was assigned a new role and received a little class time to read some
of chapter 15. We will have novel study time again tomorrow. Everyone should
complete their chapter 15 reading and response for homework.
I am still
waiting on some groups to send me their Canada’s exports video. Students who
have not completed the video yet spent second recess working with their partner
in an effort to complete this work. Students that have uploaded their video to
YouTube should email me the link at mhaag@stjudesacademy.com.
Students are reminded of the UOI test on Friday, November 18. The test will
cover Canada and its Trading Partners, and Canada and the USA. The test will also
include map work about Canada’s trading partners, continents, and oceans.
