Day 3
We began the
day with math. We took up yesterday’s homework on estimating sums and
differences and then worked on today’s lesson which was about adding and
subtracting decimals. The big tip for this lesson was to keep the place values
and decimals lined up. Students had a large chunk of class time to work on the
practice problems. Students are asked to
complete the practice questions on p. 135 -136 of the MMS textbook.
Students who
have not yet done so were asked to complete the good copy of their action-word
poems, their Haiku poem, and their poetry competition entry forms. Those who
did not get done in the class time given are asked to complete this for
homework today and submit tomorrow.
Students
continued working on their Canada’s exports during UOI time. Progress for many
groups continues to be slow. To help speed things up, groups that have not yet
uploaded their images are asked to save all images needed into a folder tonight
to make it easier to complete this tomorrow. Devices are needed until groups
present their video to the class. Students need a YouTube account to upload their
video once it is done.
We used first
recess time to work on our electric car science fair project. Students are in a
wide range of progress from still building the car frame to reflecting on the
project. We have just over two weeks to go till the science fair day on
November 24th. Parents, please remember that you are welcome to
attend the afternoon session of the fair to see what all the students have been
working so hard on in class.
After recess,
we had novel study time. Students discussed chapter 8 in their literature
circle groups. Everyone was assigned a new role and received class time to read
chapter 9. We will have novel study time again on Wednesday. Everyone should
complete their chapter 9 reading and response for homework if they did not get
done in class.
The class attended gym class with Mr. Slyk and French class
with Mme. Stella today.
