Day 5
Grade 6s
began their day attending French with Mme. Stella.
We had novel
study time early today, to allow a large amount of time for students to work on
their videos. Students discussed chapter 10 in their literature circle groups.
Everyone was assigned a new role and received a little class time to read some
of chapter 11. We will have novel study time again on Tuesday. Everyone should
complete their chapter 11 to 13 reading and response for homework.
We had no
math time again today due to being behind with UOI work and another Remembrance
Day activity. Three groups have now sent me the links for their exports videos
on YouTube. Groups who are not done the video used all UOI time to work on this
task. Groups who have completed the video or could not work on it because their
partner was away on the soccer trip worked on our next segment in this unit –
Canada’s Trading Partners. Students used
key words to search the internet to find the main countries we trade with. They
then classified these countries as belonging to the regions. Students worked independently
to learn more about Canada’s trading partners and trade agreements. While
students were working, we discovered that their world map work skills continue
to be very weak. I created an activity for them to work on to help them improve
these skills. Students that could worked on this map work activity during
class. They used maps, atlases and the internet to help them complete this
task. Students will write a test to show their understanding of Canada’s
trading partners and associated map work on Friday, November 18. Students who
worked on their video (and soccer boys) need to catch up on this work for
homework. Please complete pages 31 – 34. Students that have uploaded their video to
YouTube should email me the link at mhaag@stjudesacademy.com. Devices will
still be needed next week for our next project.
We used
first recess time to work on our electric car science fair project. We now have
5 students who have completed the entire project, including the completion of
their engineering design portfolio. Well done! We have exactly two weeks to go
till the science fair day on November 24th. Parents, please remember
that you are welcome to attend the afternoon session of the fair to see what
all the students have been working so hard on in class.
Grade 6s
attended gym class today. After gym they were treated to a display put on by a
WWII collector. This was a hands-on activity and the class had a great time
examining artefacts and trying on uniforms.
Look out for December hot lunch forms coming home today.
