Day 2
Grade 6s began
their day attending music class with Mr. Andrei.
In math we
took up yesterday’s homework and then worked on today’s lesson which was about solving
equations. We took time to ensure that students understood what an equation is.
Ask your child to explain equations to you. We practiced solving equations
involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students are
asked to complete practice work on p. 18 of the MMS textbook. Students will be
writing the Number Patterns unit test on Monday, October 17.
During
recess we had the first meeting of the first debate club at SJA. This club is
open to Grade 5 and 6 students. Most of the Grade 6 class has joined debate
club. Today’s lively debate was an extemporaneous one on the topic of uniforms.
Next week’s debate will be an impromptu one. The speakers that are for or
against the surprise topic were chosen today.
UOI time
began next. Students worked on their environmental impact of energy production
project. Students were challenged to complete all their research in class
today. We had problems with Wi-Fi connectivity as a result, students who are
missing any information are asked to complete their research at home this
weekend. The next time we work on this project, students will work on the
slideshow. Students will need their devices on Tuesday.
Our second
segment of UOI time was used to work on the preconstruction sketch for our
electric cars. This sketch had to show all major parts and the location of the
parts of the electric circuit. Students are asked to think through the steps
they will need to take to build the car over the weekend. They are asked to
consider all materials they may need based on their preconstruction sketch. Car
building begins on Tuesday. Yay!
When
students return from the long weekend they will be in their winter uniform. The
handing out of uniform violation forms will begin on Tuesday and will be handed
out to students who are not in uniform. Please see the student handbook if you
are unsure of the uniform pieces that are required.
