Electrical Safety Poster

Day 9

We have a short but busy week ahead of us. Grade 6s started the week by attending French and Gym class.

In Math, we completed our first lesson on the new math unit – Number Patterns. Students learned how to use an Input/Output machine, recorded data in tables, used input/output data in tables to decipher the numbers and operations in Input/Output machines, and wrote pattern rules for output numbers. Students are asked to complete practice work on p. 8 – 9 of the MMS textbook.

We got to hear two learner profile presentations today. Sakshi spoke about what it means to be caring, and Areej spoke about commitment. Thank you girls for your explanations and suggestions on how we can grow in these areas.

During UOI time, students heard that they were to create a poster to promote electrical safety in the home using information that they recorded from Michael Neumann’s presentation on Friday. The majority of the class wanted to work with a partner. Some wanted to choose a partner while others wanted to be placed with a partner. As a group, we looked at effective posters. The class created a list of criteria that describe effective posters. Students then began working on their posters.

In our next bit of UOI time, we viewed 3 different YouTube clips of ways that the electric cars can be built. Students worked on their first idea by drawing a thumbnail sketch. They will be discussing their ideas with families tonight.

We ended the day working on language. The class read samples of student fable and legend writing. They used a T-chart to list areas of strengths and weaknesses. We will use these ideas to create a checklist on how to write an effective fable/legend.
