Day 1
Grade 6s began
their day with math. We took up yesterday’s homework and then worked on today’s
lesson which was about patterns in division. Students practiced dividing two-
and three-digit numbers by 3 to determine if the number was divisible by 3. We
then learned about divisibility rules for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9. Students
were already familiar with divisibility rules for 2, 5, and 10. They enjoyed
learning the remaining divisibility rules. Parents, please ask your child to
describe some of these rules to you. Students are asked to complete practice
work on p. 15 of the MMS textbook.
We had
language time next, where we continued exploring the criteria that if used will
help students write a great legend or fable. Students read samples of student
writing. As a group we identified and shared the strengths that we saw in the
writing. Students learned that having a problem and a resolution is an
important characteristic of narrative writing. Having a character that the
audience can relate to is important too.
UOI time
began next. Students used the first segment to work on their electrical safety
posters. They were challenged to finish up the poster with colours and markers
before recess. Four groups were successful at achieving this
Our second
segment of UOI time was used to view more videos on how to build a battery operated
car. Students considered all the ideas they have seen and had to come up with
their third thumbnail sketch.
We got to
hear a learner profile presentations from Jacob today on what it means to have
appreciation. We appreciate your work, Jacob.
We ended the
day working on UOI. Students continued researching the environmental impact of
energy production. Some felt that they had enough information to begin working
on their slideshow.
