Day 1
We began our
day with math by taking up yesterday’s practice work. Today’s lesson was about
constructing figures using a ruler, protractor, and compass. This is a difficult
skill to master, but students will get better with practice. Students are asked
to complete practice questions on p. 94 & 95 of the MMS textbook. The unit
test will be written on Friday, October 28.
Next up was
car building time. I conferenced with most students to hear about their
progress, problems, and troubleshooting steps. Car building and completion of
the engineering design portfolio will continue at school during recess on some
days. These days will be announced to the class.
Grade 6s
attended Gym and French class.
We had two
power slideshow presentations today on geothermal and tidal energy. Well done
for being very informative, groups.
It was time
for the Grade 6 class to participate in the IB self-study next. Students
completed a survey where they rated the way that we have implemented the IB
programme at St. Jude’s. The students said it was like writing a report card
about me.
Finally, it
was the end of the day and time to reflect back on the electricity unit.
Students drew and wrote about their favourite parts of the unit. They also reflected
on how they were inquirers and how they have grown as international students.
