Today in math, we worked on congruent figures. Students used
tracing paper to check if two or more figures were the same size and shape.
They also checked for congruency by measuring to see if corresponding angles
and side lengths were the same size and lengths. We made good progress with the
practice questions in class. Students are asked to finish up the remaining
questions on p. 258 & 259 for homework.
We then worked on our inquiry unit. Grade 6s learned about
the explorations of John Cabot. Ask your child to tell you what they learned.
Students will be writing a test on the European explorers we have learned about
so far as well as the new ideas/technological advances that aided their
explorations. This test will take place on Monday, March 2.
Students then met in literature circle groups to discuss
chapter 8 of Copper Sunrise. They had class time to read chapter 9 and complete
their reflections of chapter 9.
We then had more UOI time. During this time students were
introduced to the final project for the explorers unit - choose, research, and
create a website about an explorer. Students have made the following explorer
choices:
Zachary - Jacques Cartier
Jasleen - Chris Hadfield
Ashmeen - Samuel de Champlain
Nathan - Ed Stafford
Jessica - Sacagawea
Victoria - Matthew A. Henson
Temi - James Pierce Beckworth
Julia - Neil Armstrong
Shannon - Roberta Bondar
Bryan - Ferdinand Magellan
Students had class time to begin reading up about and taking
notes on their explorer. Students will have class time each day this week
(except Wednesday) to research their explorer.
Students attended French and Gym class. Remember to bring a
device to school all week, except Wednesday.
Look out for April lunch forms coming home today.
