We started our day working on language. Students are busy
inquiring into what makes a narrative a fable or a legend. They read samples of
narrative writing and created a list of what made the samples effective.
Students will be using this list to improve their own writing.
During our flight inquiry, students began investigating the
properties of air. To do this we reviewed controlled, independent, and
dependent variables. Variables are a difficult concept for students to grasp.
Please ask your child to explain variables to you. In each investigation,
students had to state a hypothesis, where they were required to include the
independent and dependent variables. We will take up investigations in class
tomorrow. Grade 6s will be writing a test on the properties of air on Tuesday,
October 30th.
Grade 6s continued writing their book report on The City of Ember. Many students have
still not completed this task.
The class is preparing to enter the Polar Expressions poetry
competition. Today the chose one of their poems and started writing the poem
out neatly.
Grade 6s attended music, French, and math class today. In math, the class discussed the
unit review. They were introduced to exponents and practiced questions from the
text book. For homework they should complete the worksheet. Those who were
absent yesterday need to complete the unit review as well.
