Students participated in literature circle discussions of
Chapter 10 using their assigned roles. Today I sat with Group 2 and evaluated
students based on their contributions to the group discussion. Grade 6s have
been assigned Chapter 11 of The City of
Ember while they work on their reading responses. Students had lots of time to work on their reading in class. Any remaining
work needs to be completed for homework. Novels and Duo-tangs need to be
brought to school daily as we will be having novel study time daily.
In today’s inquiry time, students used class time to write a
test demonstrating their understanding of concepts in this unit. Students who
completed the test continued researching their chosen energy type. All research
has to be recorded in the graphic organiser provided and students are referring
to the checklist provided as they work. Students have begun receiving feedback
on whether their research is detailed enough. All research must be completed on
the organizer and approved before students may begin working on their slideshow.
Some students still have a hard time knowing which key words to enter into
their search engine. Students will need devices as they research and prepare
for this project.
There are a few students who still need to email me their
OPG graphs (mhaag@stjudesacademy.com)
or submit their graphs to me if printing at home. Please do this ASAP if this
applies to you.
During science fair time, students worked on building their
cars. A couple of students conducted their first test today and recorded their
observations.
The class continued working on their Iceland presentation. We
look forward to seeing families from 2:30 – 3:15 pm tomorrow. Students may come to school dressed in their
Iceland costumes or colours.
The costume ideas the class generated are as follows:
·
Wear flag colours blue, red, and white
·
Dress for the cold Icelandic weather: toque,
scarf, boots, gloves/mitts
·
Wear a beard
·
Look in your closet and put together a Viking
outfit
·
Icelandic name tag
·
Tickle Trunk for costume rentals for those
interested
Grade 6s attended music, French and math class today. During
math they continued writing the Data Management unit test.
Students are reminded that we switch to the winter uniform
after the Thanksgiving weekend.
