Next, they conducted an investigation to determine if the
materials they were supplied with conducted electricity. First they followed
instructions to build a testing device. The light bulb lighting up was evidence
that the material allowed electricity to flow, and if the material did not
allow electricity to flow the bulb would not light up. Ask your child to tell
you which materials were conductors or insulators and what happened when they
add additional salt to their water. Students are reminded to need to bring in
$15 for their supplies and a shoe box to store their cars by Monday, September
17th.
In language we continued learning about similes as literary
devices. Students finished up learning what they are and when and why writers
use them. Finally, students began writing their own similes.
