Electrical Troubleshooting

In today’s novel study time, students were introduced to the roles in literature circles. They know that each person will contribute to daily discussions in a different role and each student will rotate through and experience all five roles. We discussed the expectations for each role. Students will also complete a daily self-reflection on their preparation for and discussion in literature circles. Grade 6s used today’s time to read Chapter 1 and complete their response. Any work that did not get completed in class needs to be completed for homework. Novels and Duo-tangs need to be brought to school daily as we will be having novel study time daily.

Today’s inquiry time was focused on using a troubleshooting guide to solve electrical problems. Students learned to move through the guide if the answer to questions was yes and to correct the problem if the answer was no. They are already familiar with troubleshooting due to having built many electric circuits in class already. They wrote a letter suggesting ways to troubleshoot issues with a faulty lamp. This letter allowed students to demonstrate their knowledge of electrical troubleshooting as well as their knowledge of letter writing. They also learned about the contributions of John B. Studley and added him to their timelines.

Yesterday, our class decided to represent Iceland at International Day which is taking place at the beginning of October. Students have committed to researching different aspects of this country and have started to generate ideas on how to decorate our classroom for this day. Everyone is asked to research and prepare a traditional Icelandic dish that is peanut and nut free to serve to guests at this event. Students are asked to bring their devices to class daily as we research about Iceland.

Grade 6s attended music, math, and French class today. In math students worked on a mid-chapter review. Students will need their laptops for tomorrow’s math lesson. They will be learning how to use spreadsheets for graphing. Their laptops should have Microsoft Excel, a similar programme, or a Gmail account to access Google Sheets.

Next week, our class is responsible for hosting the monthly bake sale that takes place at St. Jude’s. This sale will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday. Each students in our class is asked to contribute baked or bought items to sell. All items must be nut and peanut free.

Golfing trip forms need to be returned by Monday, September 24th.

Remember to hand in funds raised for the Terry Fox Foundation on a daily basis.

I look forward to seeing families at the Welcome Back Barbecue tomorrow.
