Next, they were challenged to use a battery, light bulb, switch,
and wires to build various circuits in response to electric challenges. This
was an enjoyable activity, but a fair amount of trouble shooting was required
when the light bulbs would not light up. This troubleshooting is excellent preparation
for the car building that is to come. Finally, students read a little bit about
Thomas Edison and added him to their Electric Timeline. Students need to look
up the year when Edison was born and the year he died, as this information is
needed for their timeline. Students also need to bring in $15 for their supplies
and a shoe box to store their cars by Monday, September 17th.
In language we began working on literary devices. The first
literary device we are learning about is similes. Students are expected to
define a simile, identify similes and use similes in their own writing. This is
useful preparation for our poetry and short story writing this term for the
Polar Expressions competition.
